SMALL ISLAND, BIG STORIES: 5 BOOKS TO DISCOVER TAIWAN

SMALL ISLAND, BIG STORIES: 5 BOOKS TO DISCOVER TAIWAN

As for me, diving into Taiwanese stories was all about getting a better understanding of this peculiar island I chose to call home for a year (and beyond). Reading is a way to apprehend a whole new world, and in this case, it allowed me to understand the debates, the traditions, and this culture so far different from mine. Reading as a way to embrace this island’s contradictions.

4 YEARS AGO I LOST MY DREAM JOB.

4 YEARS AGO I LOST MY DREAM JOB.

4 years ago, I stood up for a cause, I stood up for a job I still believe is one of the most beautiful jobs ever, I stood up for the importance of culture, and I stood up for my beloved co-workers. But moreover, and for the first time in my life, I stood up for myself. I could feel it in my guts: “Céline, if you don’t fight for yourself right now, you’re gonna regret this for the rest of your life.” So, I stood up and fought for myself. I just couldn’t sit and watch the ship sinking into the deep ocean.

SINGAPORE I GOT A KICK OUT OF YOU

SINGAPORE I GOT A KICK OUT OF YOU

I landed in the city-state a little bit randomly.
When I decided to go back to France after my year wandering in New Zealand, I was wondering where I could stop on my way back this time. On my way to Auckland, I realized a long-time dream: going to Japan. Which new land could I explore on my way back home? Impulsively, I booked a stopover in Singapore. I met Brenna, a Singaporean girl, while I was helping at Stewart Island Smoked Salmon. We got along pretty well and my eyes were sparkling and my taste buds all excited when she was telling me about her country. This would be a perfect occasion to see her again.
Well, that was settled, I was going to Singapore!

OAMARU, THE PENGUINS, ALICE IN WONDERLAND & ME

OAMARU, THE PENGUINS, ALICE IN WONDERLAND & ME

After my big 4 days journey of crossing the South Island from Motueka to Oamaru by hitchhiking and by train, I finally arrived in Oamaru in time for the Victorian Heritage Festival, a 5 days festival which is this year placed under the sign of Alice in Wonderland! Oamaru is a beautiful coastal town in the south of New Zealand’s South Island, in the Otago region. I’m very curious about this town because it’s well known for its Victorian Heritage, its Steampunk museum, its nice climate and weather, but also because it’s possible to see some penguins in their natural habitat!
